Food insecurity can affect basic nutrition and health in many physical ways. The small size of the government’s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefit makes it very difficult to choose healthy food over calorie dense food – often the cheaper option. It is suggested that staying physically active promotes healthy weight maintenance, since one of the most prominent outcomes of food insecurity is obesity.
